On Monday morning, the Bruins got on the ice at Warrior Ice Arena in Boston with the intention of putting Sunday’s 6-1 loss in Game 4 on home ice behind them.
"Today they came in and they were pissed," Bruins coach Marco Sturm said before his team headed to Buffalo for Tuesday's Game 5. "You could see it in practice. It was intense."
The players carried over some of the emotion that they felt after a loss that Charlie McAvoy described as “f***ing embarrassing.”
In the game itself, however, signs of fight were hard to come by.
One of the few moments of visual emotion came about six minutes into the third period when starting goaltender Jeremy Swayman was pulled from the game, with Buffalo holding a 6-0 lead.
Swayman was caught on camera yelling down the bench as he stepped off the ice.

Swayman addressed his outburst following Monday’s practice.
"We have an extremely high-competitive group, and we all have a standard that we all carry ourselves to, and it wasn't met, so that was just emotion," Swayman said. “It’s moved on now and we have a job to do in Buffalo.”
Sturm commented on the heated moment after the game, retorting that ‘at least one guy’ had some fire.
"It was not his fault today, I can tell you that," Sturm said. "I felt bad for him. That's why we kept him in there for a while, because he's a battler, he wants to be in."
Swayman has had some vocal moments in the series. He was seen gesturing to the Bruins’ bench in Game 2 calling for a timeout in an attempt to stop Buffalo’s momentum. This time, he left the ice understandably frustrated with the team’s effort out in front of him in Game 4.
"You definitely pick and choose times that especially a goalie can show emotion, but we win as a team, we lose as a team,” Swayman said.

For the Bruins, Monday’s practice was about regrouping and putting Game 4 behind them.
“We’re happy it’s over with,” Swayman said. “We had a great practice today and a short memory.”
“We work our asses off to get here, and you’re not going to let that slip because of anxieties or mental disconnects,” he said. “It’s an incredible opportunity, an incredible privilege and we should be embracing it with open arms.”
Swayman said he thinks the experience the team has gained this season can help them in this elimination situation.
“I think we played a lot of the season like a Game 5 mentality, with backs against the wall and understanding that we have something to prove to ourselves and everyone around the league," he said. "I think that we should feel comfortable in a position like this.”
The Bruins will have to win in Buffalo on Tuesday in order to keep their season alive.
