Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller was transported to the hospital for further scans and evaluation after taking a scary hit in Game 4 of Boston's first-round series against the Capitals Friday night.
The hit came 7:27 into the second period. Miller carried the puck over the offensive blue line before passing to the wing. Washington defenseman Dmitry Orlov stepped up for a late hit and launched off the ice and up towards Miller's head. Miller went down awkwardly and appeared to hit his head on the ice.
Orlov was initially assessed a five-minute major for the hit, but the refs changed the call to a four-minute double minor for roughing after reviewing it. Charlie Coyle, who immediately went after Orlov, also got two minutes for roughing.
The Bruins scored on the ensuing power play when Brad Marchand tipped a David Pastrnak shot past Ilya Samsonov through traffic. The Bruins went on to win the game 4-1 and take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
After the game, coach Bruce Cassidy said he did not have any further update on Miller as of yet.
