Patrice Bergeron has won a record-tying four Selke Trophies as the best defensive forward in the NHL. Now he has also finished second in voting four times.
Bergeron missed out on a fifth Selke this year, as the NHL announced Friday night that Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov is this season's winner. It is Barkov's first career Selke.
The voting wasn't particularly close, as Barkov finished with 62 first-place votes from the Professional Hockey Writers Association and 780 total points. Bergeron finished second with 15 first-place votes and 522 points.
Vegas Golden Knights winger Mark Stone finished third (11 first-place votes, 463 points), while Bergeron's own left wing, Brad Marchand, finished ninth (39 points).
Bergeron won the Selke in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017. In addition to this year, he has also finished second in 2013, 2016 and 2020. Bergeron has been one of the three finalists in a record 10 straight years, as he finished third in 2018 and 2019.
This is Marchand's third top-10 finish in the last four years, as he also finished ninth last year and 10th in 2018.
