Torey Krug's time in Boston officially came to an end Friday night, as he signed a seven-year, $45.5 million deal with the St. Louis Blues.

The initial reaction from many upon seeing the news was one of surprise, as there had been reports that the Bruins' most recent offer to Krug was for the same $6.5 million average annual value, but just one year less.

According to Krug, those reports weren't accurate. According to him, there was no offer from Boston.

On a video call with reporters, Krug said he was "not close" to getting a deal done with the Bruins.

"There was just no communication. Nothing happened," Krug said.

Asked if the Bruins had made an offer, Krug said, "Yeah, about a year ago."

At some point, even that offer got taken off the table, meaning that as he hit the open market on Friday, Krug didn't have an offer from the Bruins.

Krug said that he wasn't expecting the Blues to be an option going into Friday, which is understandable since everyone was waiting to see if they would be able to keep star defenseman Alex Pietrangelo.

But Krug said once the opportunity presented itself, he began to realize the Blues were "a match made in heaven."

So with no offer from the Bruins, the only NHL team he had ever known, the chance to go to another consistent winner -- and one that beat Krug and the Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final in 2019 -- for good money became an appealing choice.

For the Bruins, it seems that for whatever reason, keeping Krug just wasn't a priority. Now it's going to be very interesting to see what they do with the money they didn't spend on Krug.
