On Tuesday, USA Basketball revealed a pool of 41 finalists from which the 12-player Olympic men's basketball team will be chosen for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Grant Hill, the USA National Team managing director, selected the players, though the pool is subject to change.
"The United States boasts unbelievable basketball talent, and I am thrilled that many of the game's superstars have expressed interest in representing our country at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games," Hill said in a statement. "It is a privilege to select the team that will help us toward the goal of once again standing atop the Olympic podium. This challenging process will unfold over the next several months as we eagerly anticipate the start of national team activity."
All four of Boston's American starters made the cut – Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White.
Boston's four finalists are the most by any team.
Tatum and Holiday were members of the 2020 U.S. Men's Olympic Team that compiled a 5-1 record to capture a fourth-straight Olympic gold medal.
Tatum appeared in all six games and averaged 15.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks. Holiday also played in all six games, starting in five, averaging 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists.
Brown and White were finalists for the 2020 team but didn't make the final roster.
It's not just Tatum, Holiday, Brown, and White who might be part of the Celtics contingent in the Olympics. If Latvia qualifies, Kristaps Porzingis will likely represent their National Team, and Oshae Brissett could play for Team Canada.
The final Olympic roster will be revealed closer to the Paris Games, starting on July 26. The American team is aiming for their fifth consecutive and 17th overall Olympic gold medal.
USA Basketball also announced Tuesday that Team USA will face Team Canada in Las Vegas on July 10 in an exhibition game.
