Jayson Tatum gave a herculean performance with 54 points—his fourth career 50-point game—in Sunday’s win over Brooklyn, running Boston’s record to an impressive 5-1 since the All-Star break. But the real story was what happened to Glen “Big Baby” Davis, who went viral after ABC’s broadcast caught the former Celtics big man sitting in someone else’s seat.

Social media predictably mocked Davis for getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar, leaving TD Garden with his tail between his legs. Davis, who won a title with Boston in 2008, told his side of the story on Instagram, explaining that his actual seat—one row back from where he’d been sitting—was occupied. To prove his innocence, Big Baby included a screenshot of his ticket, placing him in the second row of Section 17.

Davis took the gaffe in stride, laughing it off over a bucket of chicken wings while promoting his upcoming standup comedy tour with scheduled dates in Worcester, Boston, Beverly and Foxboro.

Davis’ mishap capped an eventful Sunday at the Garden, with the Celtics scoring a crucial win over Kyrie Irving (19 points), who was booed mercilessly in his return to Boston. Davis’ former teammate Kevin Garnett will have his jersey raised to the TD Garden rafters next Sunday, becoming the 21st Celtic to have his number retired.
