Bill Russell is the latest NBA legend to take part in the league's NBA Cares campaign to promote the COVID-19 vaccine, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Gregg Popovich.
In a video posted Thursday, Russell, who turns 87 next week, receives his first shot and delivers a pretty great one-liner that references his status as arguably the greatest defensive player in NBA history.
“I just arrived to get my COVID shot, and this is one shot I won’t block,” Russell says. “No Celtics were harmed during my shot. Let’s do this together. To learn more about vaccines, visit CDC.gov.”
Russell led the Celtics to 11 NBA titles as a player, including two as player-coach.
