It looks like Al Horford is going to get paid regardless of how the NBA Finals shake out.
The Celtics are expected to pay Horford his full $26.5 million salary next season, according to MassLive's Brian Robb. This is notable, because of the unique structure of Horford's deal. By qualifying for the Finals, Horford saw his 2022-23 salary jump from $14.5 million to $19.5. million.
If the Celtics win, Horford's salary will increase to $26.5 million. By guaranteeing that figure, the Celtics are rewarding Horford for an excellent playoff run.
The 35-year-old big man has been incredible, enjoying one of the best postseasons of his career. His signature moments came against the Bucks in Game 3 and 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, when he tallied 52 points and 24 rebounds combined.
Horford is nearly averaging a double-double with 11.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
It's apparent Horford is the team's heart and soul. When the final buzzer sounded Sunday, he dropped to his knees in utter elation.
Last year, it seemed like Horford's NBA career was over as he rode Oklahoma City's bench all the way through a miserable campaign. Now, he's playing in the Finals and set to make $26.5 million.
