The Celtics were in control to start the game, and they were in control in the closing minutes. In between, there was a nonstop battle. But the bookends were what ultimately made the difference, with the Celtics winning Game 6 128-120 to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Jaylen Brown, 32 points on 52% shooting while nailing 6 of 8 attempts from beyond the arc. Jayson Tatum, 30 points on 55% shooting. The Jays did what they’re supposed to, and in their own way — living up to their “Fire and Ice” nickname. But they weren’t alone.

Marcus Smart dropped 22 on 50% shooting. Al Horford had 10 points, 12 rebounds and two steals. Robert Williams blocked three shots, grabbed six boards and logged two steals. Malcolm Brodgon scored 17.

Boston’s stars took over, but everyone else filled in. The game — along with the series — was a tougher challenge than it needed to be, but the C’s managed to grab some momentum while also ending Atlanta’s season.

Up next: the Philadelphia 76ers.

Doc Rivers’ team has been waiting for the C’s after sweeping the Brooklyn Nets, despite not having Joel Embiid in Game 4 of that series. But, therein lies the concern with Philly.

After sitting out Game 4, Embiid hasn’t been able to prepare for the upcoming series against the C’s. That’s because he’s dealing with a sprained LCL, per ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

Even one game without Embiid could make this series significantly easier for the C’s, never mind if he misses multiple games. Regardless, the Celtics have another challenging series ahead.
