Celtics Game 2: Post-blowout betting trends in postseason

The Boston Celtics have been on the right and wrong end of a post-blowout game in this year's playoffs. After another 20-point win, they have a third opportunity for post-blowout ATS and moneyline wins in NBA betting.

Three days after beating the Miami Heat by 20 points in Game 1 of the first round, the Celtics lost Game 2, failing to cover as a 14.5-point favorite in the 11-point loss. They flipped the script with a Game 4 ATS and outright win, two days after a 20-point win in Game 3.

Game 4 was one of six times this year when a team followed a 20-point win with another win (of any margin). Those six wins — and seven ATS wins — have come in nine total games.

Since the 2021 playoffs, those teams are 34-16 overall (.680) and 35-15 against the spread (.700). The moneyline wins have produced an ROI of 15.7%, and the spread wins are 34%.

If you bet $100 apiece on the spread and moneyline in each of those 50 opportunities, you'd be up nearly $2,500.

The Celtics will have another game within this trend on Thursday night when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 after a 25-point win in Game 1. They're currently a 13.5-point favorite (-900 moneyline), which would be just the 42nd spread of at least 13 points in all NBA playoff games since 2008.
