Marcus Smart suspended 1 game for 'threatening language' toward official

The Celtics will be shorthanded at guard for Wednesday's game against the Hornets. With Kemba Walker already out with a left oblique strain, they will now be without Marcus Smart as well.

The NBA announced late Wednesday afternoon that Smart has been suspended one game without pay for "directing threatening language toward a game official" during and after Tuesday night's loss to Oklahoma City.

Smart could be seen arguing with the refs several times during the fourth quarter of the game and was assessed a technical foul at one point.

Smart has a lengthy history of fines by the NBA, including $15,000 for criticizing officiating in 2018 and $35,000 for verbal abuse of an official last year. This is his second career suspension, as he also received a one-game ban back in 2015 for hitting San Antonio's Matt Bonner in the groin.
