The Celtics have found their big man.
According to multiple reports, the Celtics have reached an agreement with free agent center/power forward Tristan Thompson. Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports was the first to report the deal.
Joe Vardon of The Athletic reports that it is a two-year deal worth a total of $19 million, which would be the Celtics' full mid-level exception.
The 29-year-old Thompson has spent his entire nine-year career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, winning a title with them in 2016. Last year Thompson averaged a career-high 12 points per game and nearly matched a career-high with 10.1 rebounds per game.
The Celtics were exposed down low against the Heat in the Eastern Conference finals, and trading away Enes Kanter and Vincent Poirier was a clear sign that they wanted to do something different with their frontcourt. Thompson fills that void, bringing some needed toughness as well as veteran leadership.
