Celtics reportedly sign guard who can knock down 3s

Brad Stevens is still tinkering around the edges of the Celtics' roster as the team prepares to open training camp next week.

The latest move came Friday, with Shams Charania reporting that Boston has signed free-agent guard Garrison Mathews to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal.

Mathews is a 24-year-old, 6-foot-5 shooting guard who spent the last two seasons with the Washington Wizards. He has hit 38.9 percent of his threes and averaged 5.5 points per game in 82 total games across those two seasons.

Mathews went undrafted out of Lipscomb University, where he set the school record for career points and led the team to its first-ever NCAA tournament in 2018.

The Celtics seemed to already be at the maximum 20-player limit for training camp, but apparently there is a chance that big man Luke Kornet ends up elsewhere, according to CelticsBlog's Keith Smith.
