The Celtics likely need another big man to improve their team and a pretty good one is now available.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Blake Griffin has agreed to a contract buyout with the Pistons and will become an unrestricted free agent. He adds the 31-year-old has a lot of interest from playoff teams and Griffin will make a decision after speaking to them.
Despite battling injuries over the last few years, he is averaging 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists this season.
So, do the Celtics have a chance?
It seems unlikely and he certainly isn't the player he once was with the Clippers, so the Celtics might not even be interested and could look to add someone who could make more of a difference.
From Griffin's perspective, he likely wants to go to a team firmly in the mix to contend for a championship and while the Celtics are playing better, there appear to be teams closer than they are. Those teams would be more attractive to Griffin.
The Celtics are currently 19-17 and in fourth in the Eastern Conference.
