On Wednesday, it was announced that Celtics two-way guard JD Davison was the winner of the 2024-25 G League Most Valuable Player Award.
Davison, who has played most of this season with the Maine Celtics while appearing in only 12 games with Boston, becomes the second player in franchise history to win this award. He joins guard Tim Frazier, who won the 2014-15 award when the league was still called the D-League and the team was still called the Maine Red Claws.
According to a press release from the Celtics, Davison finished the regular season in Maine averaging 25.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. The 22-year-old made 30 regular season appearances, leading his team to a 21-13 record and securing a spot in the postseason for a third straight year. His scoring mark ranked fourth in the G League and his assist mark ranked seventh, making him the only G League player to place among the top seven in both categories.
“His hard work and team-first attitude from day one with both the Boston and Maine Celtics have led to this achievement,” Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens said in a press release. “JD has embraced the idea of continuously improving, and we are thrilled for him.”
Davison was drafted 53rd overall in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Alabama, and is one of the most accomplished players in Maine basketball history. He owns the franchise record for points (2,677), assists (1,065), steals (158), games played (133), and field goals (994), and is fourth in franchise history in rebounds (649).
