Becky Hammon could be legitimate candidate for Celtics head-coaching job

A number of names have been surfaced when it comes to becoming the next Celtics coach.

One of them getting a lot of buzz has been Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon, especially considering Brian Scalabrine said Wednesday he thinks former Celtics assistant Kara Lawson would get the job.

But, Hammon may be more qualified than Lawson given her experience coaching with the Spurs. Lawson has been the head women's coach at Duke for the last year.

It's also worth noting Brad Stevens' comments when asked about Hammon potentially being a head coach one day, as after all he will be the one making the decision.

"There are several very qualified (female) candidates and Becky obviously is a terrific candidate. I don't know her well but I know what people think about her and I know how well she's respected all across the league by players and coaches," Stevens said earlier this year. "I would hope that that time is coming very soon. Obviously, we've had Allison (Feaster), who isn't in a coaching position, but she's been incredible in our organization and Kara Lawson is a star. She was here and we could hardly keep her here. ... Without question, that day is coming. I'm amongst the hopeful that it's very soon."

It's anyone's guess who the Celtics will hire, but it wouldn't be a major surprise if it's a woman given Stevens and the organization has done it before.
