Jaylen Brown appeared to send a cryptic message when news broke about the Nets reportedly hiring Ime Udoka to replace Steve Nash.
The Celtics' star, who was often floated in Kevin Durant trade rumors, posted a photo on Instagram of Udoka standing next to Durant on the sideline. The picture was included in an ESPN "breaking news" graphic.
Brown's decision to post the picture appears to indicate he maybe thinks that Udoka was vying for Durant last summer. The two have a strong relationship dating back to Udoka's time as an assistant for the Nets and USA Basketball.
Durant reportedly demanded over the summer for Steve Nash to be fired. The Nets relieved Nash of his duties Tuesday.
Durant, for his part, said he heard about the move after waking up from a nap. Right …
Jayson Tatum enjoys a close relationship with Udoka, and reportedly endorsed him for the Celtics' opening in 2021. Udoka also coached Tatum on the USA Basketball team during the Tokyo Games.
At Celtics media day, Brown said he was shocked at Udoka's one-season suspension, and wanted to know more. "Initial reactions, I think I was, we were all shocked with what was going on. A little confused, a little bit. But a lot of the information wasn't being shared with us or members of the team so you can't really comment on it," said Brown. "I wish we had more details."
We do, too. Brown's mysterious post only creates more questions.
