Jayson Tatum indicates he wants the Celtics to sign Carmelo Anthony

Jayson Tatum is seemingly on board with the Celtics signing Carmelo Anthony.

That is, if Twitter "likes" are to be interpreted as gospel.

The Celtics star "favorited" a tweet this week from a user reacting to a report from the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn about how the idea of Anthony joining the Celtics is "gaining traction." The user, @SwaggyB_22 (otherwise known as "Hollywood Gussy") quote-tweeted an aggregation of the report with the following message: "God if u want me to get a signed Melo jersey Just [sic] say that."

Tatum responded with a "favorite." Let the speculation begin!

Desperately in need of bench scoring, the Celtics signed Danilo Gallinari in free agency this offseason. But the veteran sharpshooter recently tore his ACL while playing for the Italian national team, leaving room for another scoring option.

Anthony, who's now 38 years old, makes sense on paper. He's probably the best shooting forward left on the market, and played in 69 games last season with the Lakers averaging 13.3 points per game off the bench. At this advanced stage in his career, Anthony probably recognizes he doesn't have many more opportunities to chase a championship.

After all, he's only won three playoff series in his entire career.

Anthony's losing pedigree remains a strike against him, but he would be asked to fulfill a very specific role on the Celtics. They could probably bring him in for the veteran minimum of $2.9 million, too.

An endorsement from Tatum could push Anthony over the top.
