As stunning as it was to see Jayson Tatum foul out in Game 4, it was almost more shocking to see Scott Foster wasn't the one to blow the whistle on the near game-changing call. Regardless of who made the call, it was an awful one. Yet, it didn't make a difference in the end.
This isn't the first time a ref has made a questionable call this postseason. More than a few players have weighed in on performances from the refs throughout the 2022 NBA Playoffs, leading to fines. Tatum, however, shouldn't have to worry about anything like that.
Even though he's known for chiming in on every call refs make against him, Tatum stayed calm when addressing the way his Game 4 showing ended.
"Couldn't believe it," Tatum said following a sigh in response to the subject. "Couldn't believe it at all. But, you know, that's what we're built for. That next-man-up mentality. Regardless of what's going on, we'll just figure it out.
"Guys came in the last couple minutes, made big plays down the stretch, got stops when we needed (them) and finished out the game. I couldn't have been happier with the way that they were playing out there those last four or five minutes."
