NBA great Ray Allen was apparently injured in a scary-looking bike crash over the weekend.
The former 10-time All-Star posted a series of hospital photos showing scrapes and road rash he says he suffered when he went down hard toward the end of a ride near his home.
Allen said he walked home for the short distance to his house, where his wife promptly took him to the hospital after he was dazed and felt ill. The former Celtics and Heat star was checked out at the hospital and given the all-clear, he added, but his helmet saved him "from a far worse fate."
"Thank God for my helmet because as you can see in the picture my head hit the ground and I didn’t even realize it," Allen said. "I wasn’t riding fast at all but the ground still took its toll. When you’re riding you can’t take your eyes off the road because something bad could happen!"
The spill happened when Allen looked over his shoulder to avoid a car that was cruising slowly behind him, he said. He crashed into a tree branch, landing on his hip, shoulder and face.
The two-time NBA champion was hesitant to share his story out of embarrassment, but said he's over trying to be cool or perfect.
"More importantly, I had to post this as a reminder for everyone to please wear your helmets when you ride!"
