Stephen A. Smith admits he's 'never been more wrong' after NBA playoffs stunner

You can count Stephen A. Smith among those who were shocked by the outcome of Sunday's Game 7 between the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns, the defending Western Conference champions.

The series finale ended in a Mavericks blowout, with the Suns being sent home in their bid to return to the NBA Finals.

Smith, the longtime pundit and host of the Worldwide Leader's "First Take," joined many on social media to express his disbelief. He even called out the "no-show" performances by Suns stars Chris Paul and Devin Booker.

"I have never been more wrong," Smith tweeted. "I can’t believe how great the @dallasmavs look — and how pathetically awful the @Suns look. @CP3 & @DevinBooker31 have been no-shows. I can’t believe this"

The Suns, who lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games in last year's NBA Finals, entered the Mavericks series as favorites and appeared to be on their way to advancing after taking series leads of 2-0 and 3-2.

But Dallas stormed back from both deficits -- and actually scored blowout wins in both Game 6 and 7 to punch their ticket to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2010-11, when they won the NBA title.

In Game 7, the Mavericks held Booker to 11 points, and Paul to 10 points and four assists. Dallas amassed a seemingly insurmountable 30-point lead by halftime, and never looked back in the second half.

Luka Doncic led the way for the Mavs, pouring in 35 points, along with 10 rebounds and 4 assists in 30 minutes of action.

Dallas will now face the Golden State Warriors in the conference finals.
