It's a trade possibility that made the rounds on WEEI Monday. First, Rich Keefe of the Dale and Keefe surfaced the idea. And then OMF's Tyler Devitte kept the conversation going as the day wore on.
Who says no?
Celtics get: Nikola Vucevic.
Magic get: Robert Williams, Marcus Smart, 2021 first-round pick. (Celtics use $10.47 million of their $28.5 million trade exception.)
The price tag for the Celtics would be steep, no question. Robert Williams is just starting to come into his own, and Marcus Smart has proven to be, in many ways, the straw that stirs the drink.
But the Celtics need to do something, and it realistically has to be something bold. Acquiring Vucevic would be just that.
The 30-year-old forward is signed for two more seasons beyond this one, making $24 million in 2021-22 and $22 million in 2022-23.
This season the 7-footer is averaging 24.6 points and 11.6 points per game while shooting 48.2 percent from the field (41 percent from beyond the 3-point stripe).
