Former NESN anchor Gary Striewski signs multi-year extension with ESPN

The NESN-to-ESPN pipeline is still going strong.

Former NESN anchor Gary Striewski has signed a multi-year extension with ESPN, the network announced Wednesday. He'll continue to serve as a commentator for ESPN's social and digital content, as well as host SportsCenter on Snapchat.

He first signed with ESPN in early 2017.

"Time flies when you're having fun," Striewski said in a statement. "Looking forward to having more of it and helping usher in the next generation of sports fans through the various shows and platforms ESPN has afforded me the chance to work on."

Striewski, 34, gained a dedicated following during his brief stint as NESN's Red Sox sideline reporter. Later, he was the co-host of the children's program, NESN Clubhouse.

It's apparent ESPN is entrusting Striewski as one of the faces of its expanding digital outreach. ESPN launched SportsCenter on Snapchat in 2017.

"Our overall strategy is to drive sports fandom on all locations," ESPN's SVP of digital content, Ryan Spoon, said at the time, per Digiday.

As ESPN loses subscribers on cable, it's imperative for the network to further increase its digital and streaming reach. Its streaming service, ESPN+, currently boasts around 13.8 million U.S. subscribers.
