As a former college athlete, I can only imagine what a time this is to be one. As of July 1, college athletes are allowed to monetize on their Name, Image, and Likeness known as NIL. It’s about time. But it’s also complicated. A majority of states in our country have NIL laws and now the NCAA, after a failed attempt at congressional interference, must evolve whether they like it or not. And they will provide their usual bad leadership leaving schools to ‘figure it out’ on their own. And that’s not necessarily a good thing. Many student-athletes signed endorsement deals the past two days, but this is just beginning, and believe me schools will find a way to elbow in on their slice of the monetary pie before it’s over.
- How the hell in 2021 does the Tour de France have a massive wreck caused by a sign holding fan who got in the way of one of the riders?
- New Celtics coach Ime Udoka, comes off as polished and ready for the job. But if he can’t figure out how to make the skill sets of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown compliment each other, he’ll be no different than Brad Stevens in the end.
- Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul will play in his first NBA Finals. And now the real pressure is on. Ya’ made it, now Ya’ gotta win it.
- Just like last week, free Britney Spears. And put Bill Cosby back in jail.
- Now that the NCAA has been forced to allow athlete to make some cash on their NIL, let’s not go to the extreme and give Reggie Bush his Heisman Trophy back. He broke the rules in place at that time.
- Even with the Red Sox at 50-31 midway through this MLB season, I don’t know how to adjust my expectations for them. Their record says they’re a World Series contender, but if they don’t make it that far, how can I be disappointed?
- I love my dog. His name is Carl. And he is a golden retriever.
- Is EURO 2021 over yet? And does the winner just move onto another soccer tournament?
- Gresh & Keefe producer John Andersen is unusually interested in when this column posts. I think it’s a cry for attention.
- I absolutely love hockey. BUT. Once the Bruins were eliminated I stopped watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
- For those who listen to ‘Gresh & Keefe’, yes. I am that picky an eater. FORMER FAT GUY NOTE: My mom tells the story of how 11-year-old me once ate a whole pot roast when I came home from school.
- Garrett Richards has sounded like a fool lately complaining how the rule change regarding sticky baseballs, has affected him and the level of adjustment required after taking away whatever he was using.
- The amount of injuries to NBA superstars during these playoffs has been staggering, but I don’t think its related to this season schedule like LeBron James has suggested.
- Seeing ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in Tide commercials doesn’t feel very WWE attitude era.
- Thanks to Rob Bradford for allowing me to spew my B.S. each week.
