The Patriots are double-dipping in the 2021 NFL Draft.
New England selected two Alabama players with its first two picks and now it has selected two Oklahoma players with its next two picks. After taking defensive end Ronnie Perkins in Round 3, they added running back Rhamondre Stevenson in Round 4, No. 120 overall.
Stevenson is a big back -- 231 pounds -- and is known for his physical playing style.
Here are three quick thoughts on the pick.
-- Not only is Stevenson a bigger back, he can also catch the ball out of the backfield. In six games last year, he caught 18 passes for 211 yards. He also is said to be a good pass protector, which is something the Patriots value in their running backs.
-- Stevenson was suspended like Perkins for a failed drug test. They both missed the 2019 Peach Bowl and then five games last year. Friday night Bill Belichick said he was OK with Perkins, so it's likely the same with Stevenson following doing their homework. This also means he doesn't have as much experience, which could mean fresher legs.
-- The Patriots running backs room is quite crowded with Stevenson, Sony Michel, Damien Harris, James White, J.J. Taylor and Brandon Bolden. This selection should put Michel on notice, as this pick seems to indicate the team will not be picking up his fifth-year option next week.
