Many thought wide receiver was a top need for the Patriots in the NFL Draft, but they didn't address the position until their final pick, No. 242 overall.

New England selected UCF wide receiver Trey Nixon in the seventh round.

In all, the Patriots added eight players over the course of the three days.

Here are three quick thoughts on Nixon.

-- He spent the first two years of his college career at Ole Miss before transferring to UCF. His best year at UCF came in 2019 when he finished with 49 receptions for 830 yards and seven touchdowns. At just over six feet tall, he isn't the biggest receiver by any means.

-- Nixon started 27 straight games before suffering a broken collarbone his past season. That forced him to miss the final six games of the 2020 season.

-- He will be considered a long-shot to make the roster and would likely need to do it by being a big contributor on special teams.
