FOXBOROUGH -- Adrian Phillips and the Patriots suffered a bit of a scare last Monday night when the safety went down at the very end of the game against the Bills.
Phillips tweaked his knee on the second-to-last defensive play, but after being evaluated on the field and then sideline, trainers found no major damage.
“Everything checked out pretty well,” Phillips said Tuesday. “At the time, I was like, ‘Oh, crap.’ I didn’t want to get hurt or anything like that, and you don’t know how severe the injury is or whatever it may be. But (I’m) just talking it day-by-day, working with the training staff and going from there.”
Phillips broke up a Josh Allen pass intended for tight end Dawson Knox just before the two-minute warning, but felt something in the knee before Buffalo ran its next, and final, play.
“I just didn’t know what it was,” he said. “Any time it’s something around the lower extremities, you just kind of feel a little more — not to say panic, but you worry about it just a little more.”
After speaking to the media, Phillips was present at practice so this is good news for the Patriots defense, even if he is limited.
He's one of the more underrated and versatile players the Patriots have, so they could not have afforded to lose him down the stretch.
