The NFL Draft process is an arduous one, where athletes are evaluated on their physical abilities, game tape as well as in-person interviews.
It is the latter, though, where NFL coaches and executives often ask befuddling questions that typically have no bearing on whether or not one would be successful in the NFL.
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara recalled when something of that nature happened to him before the 2017 draft.
Kamara said on UNINTERRUPTED that prior to meeting with a general manager, a team official had told him he needed to remove his nose ring.
“No,” Kamara said. “You don’t like it, then you don’t need to draft me.”
It was not disclosed which team had asked him this, but considering some of the things we hear come out of the pre-draft process it could have been a number of them.
If Kamara’s nose ring in his meeting was a deal-breaker for any team, they are probably regretting it.
The Saints selected Kamara with the 67th overall pick in the third round of the draft and he has been one of the most dominant players in the league in that time.
In four seasons, Kamara is a four-time Pro Bowler and has averaged five yards per carry and 8.7 yards per reception. He’s had at least 80 catches every season and at least 1,500 yards from scrimmage in three of his four seasons in the NFL.
The only season he did not have 1,500 yards from scrimmage was 2019 when he missed two games due to injuries and finished with 1,330 yards from scrimmage.
Last year, Kamara had a career-high 16 rushing touchdowns plus five receiving touchdowns for the Saints. His 326 career receptions are more than Tyreek Hill, Adam Thielen, Mike Evans, Robert Woods and Amari Cooper.
So, if a nose ring was that big of a deal to any NFL team, they surely missed out.
