Amazon appears to be honing in on a new analyst after losing out on Troy Aikman.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, the streaming service is eyeing ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit for its lead analyst spot on Thursday Night Football.

Herbstreit currently works as ESPN’s lead college football analyst in the booth, calling the national championship and also working on “College GameDay.”

He remains under contract for $6-plus million per year but his contract would allow him to do the NFL with another entity while remaining at ESPN for college football, according to Marchand.

However, the language of the contract could be disputed as a budding rivalry between ESPN and Amazon grows, Marchand noted.

If Herbstreit does join Amazon, ESPN could also want to keep him to call NFL games on its own network as it plans to expand to 25 games per year within the next two years.

While Amazon and Herbstreit have yet to engage in substantial talks, joining the streaming service could become a big payday for Herbstreit.

Amazon was prepared to make an enormous offer to Aikman and was reportedly planning to offer a five-year, $100 million deal for Sean McVay, who has said he will remain coaching with the Rams.
