The latest chapter in the Antonio Brown saga is a doozy.
The National Arena League has kicked out the team he currently owns, the Albany Empire.
In a release, the NAL says that the board of owners unanimously voted to terminate the Empire from the league “after exhausting all avenues.”
The league says the Empire didn’t pay their league-mandated and overdue assessments, as each team is responsible for a seventh of the league budget.
Brown was also personally fined $1,000 for “Conduct Detrimental to the League for his recent public comments” -- a fine which Brown did not pay.
The league says Brown paid the team’s April assessment but didn’t pay its May assessment and the April one was being challenged.
After it was realized that Brown didn’t intend to pay the assessment or fine, an emergency conference call was set up. The league gave the Empire until noon on Thursday to make a payment.
After the deadline passed, the Empire were voted out of the NAL.
The rest of the league's schedule will not be readjusted.
Brown said Wednesday that they would be leaving the NAL and wanted to join the Arena Football League.
