(670 The Score) In his own unscientific manner, Bears defensive lineman Justin Jones plans on checking the integrity of the football when Chicago visits New England on Monday night because he has heard speculation that the Patriots might still be deflating game balls.
“I heard it’s still going on, so I’m going to check those things before we go,” Jones told Mark Carman of CHGO. “I’m so serious. I heard it’s still going on. We’re going to see. I’m for sure checking. Play this game with honesty, man. You know what I’m saying?
“That ain’t cool. I’m going to check them though.”
And how exactly will this process play out on Jones’ end?
“Hand it to the ref, say, ‘Hey ref, what’s up with this?’” Jones said. “I’ll pick the ball up and I’ll press it down.”
An NFL investigation determined that star quarterback Tom Brady and the Patriots deliberately deflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game in January 2015, which they won over the Colts in a rout. Brady was suspended four games and the Patriots had to pay a $1 million fine and were docked two draft picks.
Jones has two sacks in six games this season. Kickoff between the Bears (2-4) and Patriots (3-3) comes at 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday.
