We’re beginning to find out what may be next for the rest of the Patriots’ coaching staff following the departure of Bill Belichick and hiring of Jerod Mayo.

According to SI’s Albert Breer, New England ownership (Robert and Jonathan Kraft) will “empower Mayo to fill out the staff as he sees fit, with some coaches likely to follow Belichick, and for Mayo to conduct a full search for an offensive coordinator.” He added that incumbent OC Bill O’Brien will be a candidate, but Mayo will be “open-minded in trying to find the right guy” to run the offense.”

It was also reported this past weekend by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo that while O'Brien is under contract, “expect a familiar face, Josh McDaniels, to be at the top of the list for Jerod Mayo's next offensive coordinator.”

On the 'new' defensive coaching staff under Mayo, Breer reported that Belichick’s sons, Steve and Brian “have both already been offered the opportunity to return to the team for 2024.” It’s worth noting that Mayo and Steve have grown close while running New England’s defense together over the last several seasons.

The elder Belichick son has served as the team’s co-linebackers coach for the last four seasons while Brian has been their safeties coach for the same length of time.
