Stop me if you’ve heard this before:

Bill Belichick’s future with the Patriots is in question.

New England is 4-12 heading into the final week of season and is on track for their worst finish in the 21st century. Because of this, the head coach has fielded a multitude of questions and inquiries about what could be next for him, and if he wants to remain in New England.

"Focused on the Jets," Belichick said, on several occasions, during his weekly appearance with WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show when poked and prodded by about what could be on the horizon.

The head coach was also asked about Patriots linebacker coach Jerod Mayo, an assistant on his staff who has garnered head coaching interest in the past and someone who was even called “a strong candidate to be [Belichick's] heir apparent,” by team owner Robert Kraft last March.

"I think all of our defensive coaches have done a really good job," Belichick said about Mayo’s performance this year, seemingly ducking away from the idea of giving him full credit. "Collectively, they work together. It's hard to single everybody out because they work so well together as a total group."

He continued: "Overall, the players, the coaches, have had a good chemistry and have battled through some tough situations with a great mindset. I think all of those coaches deserve their share of the credit on that."

Notably, Belichick’s sons Steve and Brian are a part of the defensive staff in Foxborough.

Belichick also spoke about Bailey Zappe’s performance against Buffalo on Sunday, if the Patriots tried to trade for Lamar Jackson this offseason, and more on Tuesday’s edition of WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show. You can listen to the full interview here.
