Bill Belichick seems to downplay Jack Easterby's role

Typically, when the Patriots play the Texans it's Bill O'Brien week, but with him fired earlier this year it is now Jack Easterby week.

The former Patriots team chaplain is now the interim general manager in Houston and was in the news the last week following popular vice president of communications Amy Palcic being fired. It reportedly was Easterby's decision.

Speaking to Houston reporters Monday, Bill Belichick was asked about Easterby and if he ever envisioned him rising to his current role.

"Jack's not a personnel person, no," he said.

It's been written on several occasions that Easterby was a "key executive" with the Patriots and that simply is not true.

"Jack did a great job for us,” Belichick said. “His role was a varied one. He worked with a lot of different aspects of the organization: players, coaches, support people, so forth.

"He was a person who could connect well with everybody, from the owner of the team to the equipment manager that picks up towels, and all of the people in between. So, he was a very valuable person for this organization in the time he was here.”

The Patriots enter the game 4-5, while the Texans are 2-7.
