Mac Jones’ tough season continued Sunday, as he threw another interception and didn’t have a touchdown pass in the Patriots’ 21-17 loss to the Raiders. He now has five touchdowns and seven interceptions on the season and ranks 30th in the NFL with a 74.4 passer rating.

In addition to some of his decision-making on the field, CBS analyst and WFAN host Boomer Esiason also took issue with something else he’s seeing from Jones recently: His body language. (Listen to the full interview above.)

“You see the head down on the sideline,” Esiason said during his weekly appearance on The Greg Hill Show. “I can understand it. He’s frustrated. He’s been really frustrated the last three games. These are the things you have to fight through.

“Show some emotion as opposed to the body language where you’re walking with your head down, your shoulders shrugged. All of that stuff is not the way a leader has to carry themselves. I’m sorry, but in the NFL, that’s what the quarterback is. The quarterback is the engine of every team. He’s the heartbeat of every team. … It’s about carrying yourself as the unquestioned leader and bringing the energy each and every week, which I know is difficult under the circumstances right now.”

Esiason added that he doesn’t think Jones has quit or given up on the season. He just thinks the third-year QB needs to carry himself better and set a better tone for his teammates.

Esiason did also give Jones credit for giving the Patriots a chance to win Sunday, including making a great throw on a deep ball to DeVante Parker on the final drive, only to have Parker drop it and essentially kill any chance of a comeback.
