Tom Brady on thoughts during free agency: 'You're sticking with that MFer?'

Tom Brady appeared on an upcoming episode of LeBron James' HBO show "The Shop," and reflected on his thoughts during his first free agent stint last offseason.

In the trailer for the episode - which will premiere this Friday at 9:30 p.m. ET - Brady recalls being dumbfounded that certain teams elected to stick with their incumbent starters over signing him:

Naturally, there will be speculation about what team the now seven-time Super Bowl Champion is referring to.

The juiciest possibility, of course, would be the San Francisco 49ers. A year after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, general manager John Lynch acknowledged that the 49ers did consider making a run at Brady - who grew up a 49ers fan - before ultimately choosing to stick with Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo, once drafted to be the heir apparent to Brady in New England, ended up playing in just six games in 2020, as an injury-plagued 49ers team went just 6-10.

It's also possible that Brady wasn't referring to the 49ers, but rather another team that was seen as a potential suitor at that time, such as the Las Vegas Raiders or Los Angeles Chargers. We'll probably never know exactly what team(s) he had in mind when making this statement.

Still, this figures to be one of the more intriguing episodes of the show given how rarely Brady has spoken openly throughout the course of his career. While James won't be on this episode, Maverick Carter will be joined by Brady, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, rapper Kid Cudi and television personality Chelsea Handler.
