A day after suing the NFL over racial discrimination, Brian Flores did a number of television interviews Wednesday morning.
One of the stops was CNN's NewDay and Flores was asked about the text messages from Bill Belichick that were included in the lawsuit where he learned the Giants were planning on hiring Brian Daboll before he interviewed for the job.
The theory is Belichick texted the wrong Brian to congratulate him on getting the job and that was how Flores knew he wasn't being considered for the job even before he met in person with members of the Giants organization.
“The Rooney Rule, that’s the first thing that came to my mind," Flores said. "But, my other emotions were why aren't I getting a real opportunity here? … A wave of emotions for me — is this real? Am I wasting my time? Look, I just put my best foot forward. That is what I have always done. Any time I was in a situation where I was dealing with adversity — look, I have been a long shot my entire life, so I figured I'd put my best foot forward and interview to the best of my ability. But, there was also this sliver of hope that I had and I guess maybe I am naive to the fact of what really goes on behind the scenes. There was a sliver of hope.”
Flores said Belichick did not know he was filing the lawsuit or that his texts would be included and made public.
Has he spoken to his former head coach since it become public?
"I have not," Flores said.
