While Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 and missed last week's game against the Chiefs, he's reportedly not showing symptoms.
Under updated NFL COVID guidelines, if he continues to not show any symptoms he can return to the team following two straight negative tests that are 24 hours apart.
This means the potential is there for him to play Sunday against the Broncos (if the game is in fact played).
Speaking on a conference call Thursday, Bill Belichick confirmed Newton is participating in virtual meetings.
“In virtual meetings? Yeah, sure. Why not?" he said. "… Anybody that tested positive wouldn’t be allowed to be in any in-person meetings until they are cleared medically, so that is that. In terms of virtual meetings, yeah. Absolutely.”
Belichick was asked how Newton is feeling, but the coach deflected.
“I haven’t talked to him in a day, so I don’t have anything current for you," he said.
The Gillette Stadium facility was closed Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday's tests reportedly came back negative, so if things continue to go in the right direction it would seem it could reopen Friday allowing the team to practice.
