the greg hill show: How much faith do you have in the Patriots' offensive line?
The Patriots offensive line has struggled through three weeks of training camp.
If they want outside help, veteran tackle Jason Peters, who won a Super Bowl against New England in 2018 with the Eagles is available.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the six-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowler “still plans to play this season”. This would be the free agent’s 20th NFL season.
Ideally, the Patriots will go into the 2023 season with what they have: Five veteran starters in Trent Brown, Cole Strange, David Andrews, Mike Onwenu, and Riley Reiff - and several rookies and depth pieces to develop behind them.
Health, however, has been a major concern along the line this summer. Andrews, Brown, Strange, and Onwenu have all missed time nursing injuries, and back up swing tackle Conor McDermott missed Thursday’s practice in Green Bay as well.
The Patriots will face off against the Packers on Saturday night in their second preseason game and if things look anywhere close to the way they did last week against Houston, perhaps they try giving Peters a call. Though 41 years old, the 18-year vet would bring plenty of experience to the room and could help guide the young guys while also adding another insurance policy should more injuries arise.
Rookies Jake Andrews, Atonio Mafi, Sidy Sow, and backups James Ferentz, Kody Russey, and Andrew Steuber will all have a chance to show their worth under the bright lights at Lambeau Field this weekend. If they continue getting their quarterbacks and running backs clobbered, you have to wonder if an internal panic button will start to sound in Foxborough.
