It's been an interesting few weeks for defensive tackle Carl Davis.
On Oct. 14, he was signed by the Patriots off the Jaguars practice squad. After a week of going through COVID protocols, he was finally able to practice with his new team, but he suffered a concussion during that session.
Davis finally made his debut against the Jets two weeks ago.
The 28-year-old spoke to the media Wednesday and was asked about his impressions about the Patriots before joining and what it's been like now that he's been with the organization for a month.
"Definitely heard it's a tough program. It's not for the mentally soft. That's what I heard," he said. "First practice, it was a good physical practice, and obviously I didn't feel well after that. It's good for me, though.
"Coming here, it surprised me how much it actually fits my style of play and what I like to do just as a player from the training staff, from the weight room guys and even practicing. I feel like I'm getting better every week. I feel like I'm learning a lot, my coaches have been great with teaching everything. I feel like it's family here already."
Davis played his college ball for Kirk Ferentz and Iowa, which he said was similar to what he's going through now.
"I think that's why it worked to my favor here," he said. "The Iowa program was a very physical program and it was tough and I think it actually, I feel like that's why I'm so comfortable here. I feel good here. It's just every day you have to put in a hard day's work. That's kudos to Coach Ferentz and his program at Iowa. I see a lot of the similarities between here and Iowa. I think that's why I felt right at home."
Davis will give the Patriots some depth at the defensive tackle position, which needed it, especially considering leader Lawrence Guy is dealing with a number of injuries.
