What the Patriots do at the quarterback position in 2021 is anyone's guess.
The team could start a veteran it signs in free agency, a rookie it drafts, or even have Cam Newton back for another year.
Appearing on The Greg Hill Show with Gary Tanguay, Steve DeOssie and Jermaine Wiggins filling in Wednesday, NBC Sports' Chris Simms said everything is still on the table, including Newton.
“I don’t think it’s crazy maybe to think they draft a quarterback and keep Cam Newton and have that guy sit there for a year or two behind Cam Newton. I think anything is on the table still here," he said. "That is why I still think you’re seeing New England and Bill [Belichick] and everybody not pull the trigger on starting Jarrett Stidham or doing any of that. I don’t think he’s come to the determination yet of [whether] Cam Newton might be back next year and [he] might want him as [his] quarterback and doesn’t want to start this quarterback controversy conversation. I think everything is on the table right now.
"I would say knowing New England they are not going to part ways with Cam Newton. I think they are one, realistic knowing they haven’t put the talent around him, but two, they are not going to part ways until you show them someone that is a better option out there that they feel like they can get behind.”
Newton will be a free agent following the season.
