Tempers flared a bit following Sunday's Patriots-Dolphins game with Cam Newton getting into it with a few Miami players.
After the game, Newton said some Dolphins players were trying to rip off his chain and also seemed to call out defensive tackle Christian Wilkins.
"It was a competitive game on both sides," he said. "You just have to realize who you're talking to and just keep everything in the game. I realized I was talking to a person that is known for doing splits. That wasn't characteristic of myself to keep going back-and-forth."
Wilkins is the person Newton was referring to, which comes from his celebration following Clemson winning the national championship.
Appearing on "The Zach Gelb Show," Wilkins gave his side of things.
"Me and Cam, we best friends," Wilkins said in a joking manner. "No, just a lot of things happened throughout the course of the game, just a lot of emotions and just energy. It's the first game of the year, things like that. Little things are going to happen throughout the course of the game or at the end of the game, but that's in the past now. I'm focused on this next coming week."
On Monday, Newton told The Greg Hill Show his chain has special meaning for him because it has all his kids' birthstones.
