Entering his second straight week on a hunger strike following his arrest at a pro-sports betting rally last week, Mut once again sat out this week’s edition of the Winners Club. Luckily, Chris Scheim and I continue to evade the long arm of the law and tackled a tacky bit of alliteration as we gave out our “LAY UP, LAY DOWN/OFF, AND LAY AWAY” picks for the NFL’s divisional odds on this week’s podcast.
What does that mean?
Lay Up - Like basketball; Each of our best picks to win their division.
Lay Down - A team others are high on who we think could come in LAST in their division.
Lay Off - A team others are high on who we don’t think will win their division.
Lay Away - A team that could surprise people this season but is most likely a year away.
Here are the highlights of the episode: (This does not preclude anyone from actually listening to the podcast, which you can do below.)
· We did a deep dive on why the Colts are the LAY UP pick to win the AFC South, which involved a reading of Jaguars defensive coordinator Joe Cullen’s rollercoaster of a Wikipedia page.
· Why Washington is by far the best team in the Goonies Division. (NFC East…)
· Why you should LAY OFF both the Seahawks and Ravens.
· Why the Chargers are still a year away.
· And an impassioned case by me as to why you shouldn't sleep on the Jets this season--maybe not to win the division, but to make some noise offensively and in the AFC Wild Card race.
