Tom E. Curran on G&K discusses possibility of Patriots trading into top 10 of NFL Draft

Could the Patriots trade up into the top 10 for a quarterback in the draft later this month?

With 10 overall selections, of course they can, but it will come with a cost. Just look at what the 49ers gave up to go from No. 12 to No. 3 -- the No. 12 overall pick, a 2022 third-round compensatory pick and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023.

Atlanta is reportedly considering trading its No. 4 selection, so would the Patriots ever do that?

This was brought up to NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran during his appearance on Gresh & Keefe Tuesday.

“Atlanta is going to understand the Patriots are in the same position as the 49ers, perhaps even worse, so they are going to hold them up," he said. "I don’t know where the motivation would be for Atlanta to deal with [them] and then trade back to 15. There’s no upside. None. I wrote the story saying what it would cost, kind of rebutting and rebuffing the idea, and then later in the day the [Sam] Darnold move comes and you now have a team at 8 [Panthers] that maybe you could entertain the possibility of jumping up to and getting ahead of Denver [No. 9 overall].”

Based on what Curran said, it doesn't fit the Patriots' overall approach with value going from No. 15 to No. 4, but going from No. 15 to No. 8 could be more realistic.

These discussions will only continue over the next few weeks as the draft approaches.
