Tom Brady signed an extension with the Buccaneers this offseason which has him playing through the 2022 season, with some void years after that.
But, this may not be the last contract he signs.
According to Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht, the 43-year-old did not tell the team if he expects this to be his last contract or not.
“I want to keep all those conversations, most of them, private, but no inkling at all,” Licht said on The Rich Eisen Show. “I told him if he wants to play until he’s 50, and he still feels like he can play, he can still play until he’s 50.”
At age 43, Brady won a Super Bowl in his first season with the Buccaneers and threw 40 touchdown passes.
Licht also gave some insight into how involved Brady was this offseason when it came to bringing back virtually the entire team from a year ago, as well as adding a few others.
“With any great player like Tom at that position, if we’re thinking about signing Gio Bernard for example, I’ll let him know, ‘Hey thinking about signing Gio Bernard. Little push might help,’” he said. “He’s like, ‘I’m on it. Love that kid.’ With Leonard (Fournette) last year, ‘That’s awesome. He’d be a great addition. I’ll help you and Bruce [Arians] out as much as I can.’
“So I think he likes the fact that we tell him who we’re thinking of signing every once in awhile, particularly if it’s going to help him on the offense. But in terms of having a meeting where we go over the board and talk about all of our plans, that’s just not his style. He trusts us.”
2021 will be Brady's 22nd NFL season.
