the greg hill show: devin mccourty joins the show
The big mystery surrounding the Foxborough area this Thanksgiving season is who the Patriots will start at quarterback this coming Sunday against the Giants.
After benching Mac Jones in their last game against the Colts, Bill Belichick said on Tuesday that he "told all the players the same thing: 'be ready to go'" and that he'll let us know who their starter will be on Sunday.
Leaving it open-ended, of course, gives us an opportunity to speculate. So who will it be? Jones? Bailey Zappe? Will Grier? On Wednesday's edition of WEEI's The Greg Hill Show, former Pats safety Devin McCourty was asked who (if he was Bill Belichick) he would start:
"I honestly, from looking at some of the reports, I think it's going to be Will Grier," McCourty said. "I think all of the media portions have been Bailey [Zappe] and Mac [Jones] going back and forth taking the first team reps, but I think they're doing that to make sure no one knows. But I think, to bench Mac in that last game in Germany against the Colts with two minutes left, I just think they've seen a lot of Zappe, they've seen a lot of Mac. Will Grier's a guy that they really haven't seen much, and he's a professional. He's been in the league for a while, in different situations. I think there's a chance he starts Sunday."
Grier spoke with reporters on Tuesday afternoon at his locker, and, although he wouldn't indulge on if he'd gotten first-team reps in practice, said that, "if I get an opportunity, I’m just going to go play and win."
