The NFL’s COVID nightmare continued on Tuesday less than an hour before kickoff between the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens when Dez Bryant was scratched from the game after testing positive for the coronavirus.
Bryant had produced an inconclusive result from a test Tuesday morning and was asked to test again, which came back positive.
The Ravens wide receiver was warming up prior to the game and going through his usual pregame routine when he was pulled to conduct the test.
The fact that Bryant was in the locker room and on the field with his teammates warming up preparing to play a game left many fans confused as to why the Ravens-Cowboys game, which was already rescheduled to Tuesday for COVID-related reasons, could still be played.
Per the NFL’s COVID protocols, contact tracing is done whenever a player tests positive to determine if anyone is qualifies as a high-risk close contact. To fall into this category, that means anyone who was exposed to the infected individual while not wearing a mask.
No other players were removed from the game. All other players also tested negative from the morning results, per multiple reports.
Still, the fact that the game was still being played did not sit well with fans as they voiced their concerns and criticism toward the NFL on social media. Even Bryant himself was unsure if the game should be played.
