After Sunday's game against the Broncos was rescheduled for Monday, it was ultimately postponed following a fourth member of the Patriots testing positive Saturday night/Sunday morning.
The game has been rescheduled for Week 6.
While the NFL made the decision to postpone the game a week, some believe members of the Patriots influenced that decision because they would not have played the game if it was indeed held Monday out of safety concerns.
Appearing on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria Monday, Bill Belichick indicated the Patriots do not have anything to do with rescheduling games.
“We don’t really have anything to do with the scheduling," he said. "There are a lot of things involved I am sure for the league to schedule games with other teams and how that effects other schedules and stadium locations and travel and everything else. That is not really something we’re apart of.”
Belichick was asked if the players have lost trust in the league with how it has handled things, but he didn't want to speak on behalf of them. The coach did indicate everyone is trying to do the right thing in terms of balancing everything out in order for games to be played.
“I feel like everybody is doing their best trying to make the season happen and work around a lot of what I would say difficult problems," he said. "We’ll continue to do that.”
Belichick added: “I think everybody is doing the best they can to handle them. The problems aren’t easy, but I think there are a lot of smart people involved here and there are a lot of people who are trying to do the right thing with handling the football side of it and handling the medical side of it and trying to balance it all together.
"Again, everybody wants to play, so I think we are all trying to find a way to make that work safely.”
With the game being moved a week, the Patriots essentially will not have a bye week this season as Week 5 will be counted as their bye.
