Who will be the Patriots' quarterback the final two games of the season?
Bill Belichick was very vague when asked about the topic via conference call Monday morning, so what does Cam Newton have to say?
“I am going to leave it up to the people I have been leaving it up to since Day 1," he said Monday on The Greg Hill Show. "I am not going to get caught up into it or feed into that knowing that I am still on a job interview, to be honest with you. It’s my job to put the best version of me on film and that’s what I plan on doing.”
Newton will be a free agent following the year and his future is uncertain -- whether in New England or elsewhere.
Appearing on NBC Sports Boston's pregame show Sunday, MMQB's Albert Breer suggested Newton could potentially consider retirement.
The Patriots quarterback, who will turn 32 years old next May, said that's not happening.
“Man, listen, I am not there," he said. "One of my goals this year, for what it’s worth, was just to finish the year healthy. This year man, God has granted me and given me the opportunity to play a healthy season, for what it’s worth.
“Yeah, I still have a lot of football left and I still want to play football and I have the urge to be better and after putting on this film, come on now. I can’t go out like this. I definitely can’t go out like this.”
In 13 games this season, Newton is completing 66 percent of his passes for 2,381 yards, five touchdowns and 10 interceptions to go along with 11 rushing touchdowns.
