Now that the 2020 season is over, the focus now shifts towards 2021 and one of the biggest questions is what will the team do at quarterback?
One of the first questions to Cam Newton following the 28-14 win over the Jets was if he expects to return?
"Listen, I have my desires. I know where my heart's at," he said. "I know the things, who I am. But as far as that, I can't really speak on it right now. But just my whole time here in New England has been a blessing. I've learned so much about myself, about great teammates, unbelievable coaching. Yeah, so I'll just see how it goes, go from there."
Newton signed a one-year deal last summer so he will be a free agent this coming March.
As for the game, it was one of Newton's best performances of the season. The quarterback was 21-for-30 passing with 242 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding a receiving touchdown from Jakobi Meyers. Newton also added 79 yards on the ground.
Newton seemed to be having fun on the field all game long.
"Today everything meshed in ways that we wanted it to mesh," he said. "Obviously we hit a lull there, but we knew we just needed to keep going and keep plugging away. That's what we did. Success brings a different swagger, a different comfort. Obviously scoring touchdowns, back-to-back touchdowns, will kind of do it for anybody."
The Patriots finished the year 7-9, their first losing season since 2000.
